OKCupid Questions – A Rant

12 Sep

We need to talk about OKCupid match questions again.

As you may, or may not know..  OKCupid users create the questions that you can answer on the website.   There are literally thousands of them.   I don’t think it’s humanly possible to get through them all, not that you’d want to.   Some of the questions are just bizarre.

Anyway – I know I have brought this specific question up months ago.. but I feel the need to rant about it again.

Men of the interwebs..  If you answer the OKCupid Question:

“Do you think women have an obligation to keep their legs shaved?”

with YES…  you are the biggest tool on the planet.

Let me clarify:  I am not against shaved legs.  Not in the slightest.  You can prefer me to shave my legs on a consistent basis all you want..  but by no means am I obligated to do so..  and if you so think that I am obligated to do so,  I’m calling it off.    The question doesn’t ask your preference, it asks if you think women are obligated to do so.  — And, quite honestly, if I managed to fall in love with someone who felt I was obligated to shave my legs…  I would be very quick to inform him that he is also obligated to shave his legs.   None of this “double standard” shit.

By now it should be quite clear that I don’t take highly people obligating me to do things.   The only thing in life that I am obligated to do is breathe and pay taxes.

On my quest for love online, I am looking for a partner.  Someone who isn’t going to force me to do anything, and will support my decisions for me, even if the opinion differs from their own.   But, apparently, that is going to turn me into an 80 year old lady with 17 cats.   Go figure.

That’s similar to guys and shaving their face. Some women demand it to be done. That’s not how I roll. If a girl prefers it, I will do it on weekends or special occasions. But there’s no way I’m shaving all the time so it’s always smooth.

What are your thoughts on this?

I still kiss my boyfriend when he’s scruffy because I love him, but it literally hurts me and sometimes leaves red marks on my face. I see shaving legs vs face as very different things. If I haven’t shaved my legs in a few days, I’m not leaving irritated red marks on my boyfriend.

That said, women should never *demand* it. It’s your face! They should politely express a preference and then kindly thank you when you comply, especially if you’re doing it just for them.

Ooh – additionally.. I agree with Belle.. that stuff hurts the face!
Also, If you have facial hair, and you put on OKC that a woman is obligated to keep her legs shaved – you might get a mean message from me. Because, now THAT’S just ridiculous.
In a CatLady perfect world, guys wouldn’t have facial hair – or at least of the bushy variety because I don’t find it attractive.. but I am not going to force the issue.

My facial hair never gets too long. If I get into a relationship and gal likes a smooth face, I will shave for her if she asks nicely and doesn’t demand it. I know it can feel like sandpaper sometimes.

First: DFP, we totally need to date. Really.
Second: I roll exactly the same. I get that super smooth legs feel really nice. But leg hair HAPPENS, and if a guy is going to get all freaked out over it, what’s gonna happen when any other thing isn’t perfect? Shaving is a nice thing to do for your sweetie. End of story.
Third: Seriously-we are perfect for each other. *chuckle*

I think a lot of the questions on OKC are made up by members themselves…and, judging by what’s out there, you can probably better understand where they’re coming from 😉

My boyfriend doesn’t care if I shave my legs or not. My knees never get completely smooth (seriously, I’m in my 20s, still haven’t figured that out), but he’s just as flattering of my soft skin from ankle to thigh. No grossed out reaction to hairy knees.

It is NEVER a woman’s obligation to remove ANY body hair. It’s just a ridiculous beauty standard imposed upon women.

    1) I like to date women with secondary sex characteristics. Body hair is one of them. 2) It’s entirely up to the woman as to what body hair she wants to remove. By the time I get to the point where I’m noticing her body hair, I’m already pretty much in love. Leg, arm, under arm, hoo hoo, treasure trail, nipple hair, whatever isn’t going to dissuade me.

My personal favorite question, for the utter hilarity of it, is “If your partner needed to be slapped across the face, hard, to be aroused, would you do it?”

    REALLY???

I remember a certain someone who almost wouldn’t even meet me because I had facial hair…. 😉
