Meeting People OFFline.

11 Jul

This post is fueled by competitiveness and alcohol.

As you may or may not know, most Wednesday nights I host a podcast with a great Twitter friend of mine, @A_Dude79.  Our last two podcasts now have been the two of us bickering because of a suggestion I made about where to meet chicks:  Zumba class.

(Listen all about it:   Episode 11 and Episode 12.)

My argument is:  If a guy goes to a Zumba class, and OWNS Zumba.. (as in, participates and has fun with it, makes eye contact with fellow zumba-ers and has confidence..)  he is immediately totally hot, and could easily suggest drinks and get some phone numbers.

A_Dude’s argument is:  Girls will automatically think he’s either gay or creepy.. and girls subconsciously will rule him out because he won’t be giving off enough testosterone.

Now,  I am going to be testing this theory with my heterosexual male cousin.  We have a Zumba date lined up, and even though he is going with me to Zumba – we won’t be going in together, and we will pretend not to know each other.   So – the follow up will be on NEXT Wednesday’s podcast. (Always held at 10PM Central Standard Time.)

But-  in the meantime…  We need some people to weigh in so we can put out the fire and lay this beast to rest!!   I ask you kindly to only answer the poll for your own gender:

Feel free to give me a piece of your mind in the comments, too!

    Hi everyone,

*Imagines forced murmurs of “hello” in return*

Long time reader, first time commenter (or did I once before? Hmm… If I have, did I already use this line?! ACK)

    As for Zumba?

    Yeah no.. Never.

Granted I have this opinion if you are engaging in this activity for the sole purpose of meeting women. I guess I lump that together with the gym or yoga or something. People go to said activities to work out; not meet/hook up. I’ve heard a number of women (some I know personally) voice distaste for attending a gym due to it turning into a “meat market” of sorts.

Mind you, I’ve not yet listened to the podcast and am going off only this post, so there is a good chance I’m a bit in the dark with all that’s been discussed.

Honestly, I don’t think testosterone levels would be an issue (though, simple searches do tend to reveal that many — with the abundance of participants [read: All, but maybe one] being women — view/assume male participants as being gay), because most women probably have no intent on meeting a guy at Zumba class.

Except you did say you would find it hot… So who knows?

I go with creepy factor. You may have some balls doing the class instead of staring from outside, but creepy nonetheless. I don’t think it would take a woman long to determine exactly why you are taking the class.

Definitely not my cup of tea 😉

Kudos on the podcast! I hope to do one at some point too. May have to touch base and get some pointers If that’s cool. No Zumba necessary!

Doing something like Zumba with an air of confidence would attract females, i would think. A straight man who is comfortable enough in his sexuality and masculinity to willingly take a Zumba or yoga class exudes just that – confidence.

As far as giving off enough testosterone…that’s a silly argument. Working out increases testosterone levels in a man’s body and the smell is present in his sweat. Higher testosterone leads to more attraction from a female on a subconscious level. This isn’t spitballing – it’s science. Look it up. It’s also why after a workout, a hockey game, yoga, etc, my girlfriend can’t keep her hands off of me – even if she didn’t witness the game/workout/etc.

considering one of my friends is about to marry a man who was once her zumba instructor, i believe that the right guy with confidence can definitely get a girl through zumba. it may not work for everyone but it can happen!
